Two weeks before Back Yard Bible Club, my children and I found ourselves at the book store. As we looked around mindlessly, walking down the kids aisle, I found myself in the religion section. As I glanced around the section, not intending to purchase anything, a leather purple and pink Bible caught my attention. I grabbed it off the shelf and started inspecting it. At that moment, my daughter Ryan replied, “Another Bible, Mom? Why do you need another Bible?”
To her I responded, “I’m not sure honey, I only know that I am supposed to buy it.” So I did. When I got home, I put it away on my shelf and moved on.
The week of Back Yard Bible Clubs was amazing! We had two young boys give their life to Christ for the first time early in the week. The club leaders were prepared and each child got a commitment card, invitation to SummerFest, and a Bible.
Immediately, I smiled and ran to my shelf where I had put the leather pink and purple Bible that I had purchased two weeks before. I wrapped my arms around Arianna and wrote her name in her first, very own Bible.
The last day of the club, after the gospel presentation, one little girl, Arianna, decided to put her trust and faith in Jesus. We were all so excited because she was a last minute invite and was only in Austin that one week. As the club celebrated her decision, they realized they had run out of “gift bags” for kids who make the decision to trust Christ and had no Bible to give her.
Immediately, I smiled and ran to my shelf where I had put the leather pink and purple Bible that I had purchased two weeks before. I wrapped my arms around Arianna and wrote her name in first, very own Bible.
As Arianna walked away that evening, my daughter came and gave me a hug and said, “Oh Mommy, that’s why!”
